Kipp Dawson worked underground as a coal miner for thirteen years, where she organized in the Labor Movement with the United Mine Workers of America and the Coal Employment project. She supported labor solidarity actions with striking workers across Appalachia and the U.S., El Salvador, and the U.K., where she worked with miner’s wives in the British Miners Strike. She remained active in organized labor through the AFT/Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers.
